Jiangsu approves 12.5 TWh more direct power trade
17 Sep 2015
Coal-consuming eastern China province of Jiangsu has approved additional 12.5 TWh of direct power trade between 319 power users and 24 power generating firms this year, in an effort to facilitate reform on the country’s power sector, said the provincial energy regulatory office.
By further expanding the direct power trade scale, Jiangsu aims to realize a trade target of 22 TWh for the whole year of 2015, accounting for 4.4% of the province’s total power use, up from 9.5 TWh in 2014.
The province launched the trial in advancing direct power trade between users and generating firms in 2012 with 1.32 TWh power traded that year. This gained popularity among power users owing to its cost reduction.
The office set some thresholds for those power users and generating firms to be qualified for direct power trade. Power generating firms should be coal-fired, with installed capacity of each generating unit in excess of 0.6 GW, while power users should comply with environmental requirements and industry policies.
