JoyGlobal to unveil hybrid range in India in 2015

26 Nov 2014

November 26: Mining equipment manufacturer JoyGlobal plans to launch a range of its new hybrid equipment model early next year. However, these will be commercially available from 2016 onwards, a company official informed ICMW.

“We are innovating in the form of hybrid equipment. Earlier, the high capacity shovels used to be electrically operated. Today, we, at Joy Global, as an industry leader, are manufacturing hybrid machines which operate through a combination of hydraulics and electrics,” he elaborated.

The official explained that from the global perspective, there has been a lot of development in the manufacturing scenario. New types/generation of machines are being produced that are more efficient. As the mining canvas is getting larger, capacities of the mining equipment are also getting bigger.

“New features are being incorporated in the products. For instance, in percentage terms, earlier, we used to make shovels of capacity up to 60 cubic metres which have been enhanced to 75-80 cubic metres -- a hike of more than 20 percent,” he informed.

Where the electrical aspects are concerned, nowadays, machines are highly energy-efficient too with less fuel consumption, thereby reducing the total cost of ownership.

Asked how many units from the new range could be sold in India, the official said: “These are premium range equipment and we are eagerly awaiting the response from the market.”

Though the official declined to comment on the costs, industry sources informed that typically a premium range, heavy mining equipment can cost in the vicinity of Rs 30 crore.
