September 11: Steam coal imports through the port of Kolkata stood at 203,365 tons in August 2013 against 328,994 tons recorded in July 2013, showing a drop of 38.18%, as per provisional data available with ICMW.
With this, steam coal imports via Kolkata during the first five months of 2013-14 stood at 1,473,291 tons against 814,804 tons imported during 2012-13.
Imports in August 2012 were at 34,329 tons.
Total imports in 2012-13 amounted to 1,696,998 tons.

In August 2013, 199,365 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,553 – Rs 4,602 ($41-$75) per ton and 4,000 tons came in from South Africa in a price range of Rs 6093 – Rs 6,551 ($99-$106) per ton.
In July 2013, however, 18,958 tons arrived from Hong Kong at Rs 3,484 ($58) per ton, 53,499 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,996 – Rs 3,238 ($51-$54) and 256,537 tons arrived from the UAE in a price range of Rs 4,340 – Rs 4,617 ($72-$77) per ton.
