June shortfall in coal receipts by Indian power utilities at 2.2 mt

July 31: Total shortfall in coal receipts by Indian power utilities during June 2014 stood at 2.202 million tons (mt), higher than the shortfall of 1.382 mt reported in May, according to provisional data made available to ICMW by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

In June 2014, total receipts stood at 42.117 mt while the requirement was 44.319 mt, the data revealed. Out of the total receipts in June, 31.346 mt came from domestic sources, namely Coal India Limited (CIL) and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), while imported coal receipts stood at 7.616 mt. A volume of 3.155 mt came from other sources, as per the data.

In May, total receipts stood at 43.186 mt against the total requirement of 44.568 mt.

During May, out of the total receipts, 32.448 mt came from domestic sources, ie, CIL and SCCL, while imported coal receipts stood at 7.816 mt and 2.922 mt came from other sources, shows the data.
