KPCL’s August coal imports much below target

September 18: Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) imported 49,000 tons of coal in August 2014, which fell short of the month’s target of 142,000 tons, as per provisional data available with ICMW.
On a month-on-month basis, August imports were almost 51.49% lower from 101,000 tons of steam coal imported in July 2014, according to provisional data of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) made available to ICMW.
On a year-on-year basis, the imports were 18.33% lower compared to 60,000 tons imported in August 2013.
Following the revision in June figures, the power generator’s coal imports during the first five months of 2014-15 stood at 617,000 tons, up 20.74% as compared to provisional imports of 511,000 tons during the corresponding period of 2013-14.
