KPCL’s December coal imports much below target

January 14: Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) imported 49,000 tons (revised by CEA) of coal in December 2014, which fell short of the month’s target of 142,000 tons, as per provisional data available with ICMW.
On a month-on-month basis, December steam coal imports were, however, 25.64% higher than 39,000 tons in November 2014, according to provisional data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) made available to ICMW.
In December 2013, coal imports by KPCL stood at 87,000 tons.
The power generator’s coal imports during the first nine months of 2014-15 stood at 859,000 tons, up 4.88% as compared to provisional imports of 819,000 tons during the corresponding period of 2013-14.
