KPCL’s July coal imports below target

August 12: Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) imported 101,000 tons of coal in July 2014, which fell short of the month’s target of 142,000 tons by 71%, as per provisional data available with ICMW.
On a month-on-month basis, July imports were almost 30% lower from 144,000 tons of steam coal imported in June 2014, according to provisional data of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) made available to ICMW.
On a year-on-year basis, the imports were 33.55% lower compared to 152,000 tons imported in July 2013.
Provisional imports of coal by KPCL in June 2014 were 106,000 tons, which has been revised to 144,000 tons, the data said.
Following the revision in June figures, the power generator’s coal imports during the first four months of 2014-15 stood at 559,000 tons, up 23.94% as compared to provisional import of 451,000 tons during the corresponding period of 2013-14.
