KPCL’s May coal import below target

June 16: The Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) imported 127,000 tons of steam coal in May 2014, about 11% lower from its target of 142,000 tons for the month, according to provisional data of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) made available to ICMW.
The power generator’s coal import during the month was down more than 32% as compared to actual import of 187,000 tons in April 2014, but up nearly 34% as compared to 95,000 tons imported in May 2013, the data revealed.
The provisional import of coal by KPCL in April 2014 was 180,000 tons, which has been revised to 187,000 tons, the data said.
Following the revision in April figures, the power generators coal imports during the first two months of 2014-15 stood at 314,000 tons, up 60% as compared to provisional import of 196,000 tons during the corresponding period of 2013-14.
