KPCL’s coal imports in December up manifold m-o-m

Imports of steam coal by power utility Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) in December stood at 29,000 tons compared a mere 4,000 tons in November 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The actual imports in December were only 35% of the target of 83,000 tons.
Imports of steam coal by KPCL during the first nine months (April-December) of 2015-16 stood at only 294,000 tons, down 67% compared with 860,000 tons imported during the same period of 2014-15.
The import target for the utility for the first nine months of 2015-16 was 750,000 tons, which means the materialisation for the period was 39%.
The original import target for the year was 2.0 mt, but it was revised to 1.0 mt in July following increased availability of domestic coal.
