KPCL’s coal imports in January spurt by 121% m-o-m

Imports of steam coal by power utility Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) in January 2016 catapulted by 120.69% to 64,000 tons compared a mere 29,000 tons in December 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The actual imports in January 2016 were a moderate 77.12% of the target of 83,000 tons set for the month.
Imports of steam coal by KPCL during the first 10 months (April-January) of 2015-16 stood at only 358,000 tons, down 61.17% compared with 922,000 tons imported during the same period of 2014-15.
The import target for the utility for the first 10 months of 2015-16 was 833,000 tons, which means the materialisation for the period was 42.97%.
The original import target for the year was 2 mt, but it was revised to 1 mt in July following increased availability of domestic coal.
