KPCL’s coal imports touch 94% of target in October

November 30: Imports of steam coal by power utility Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) in October 2015 stood at 78,000 tons, which was 94% of the target of 83,000 tons set for the month, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
On a month-on-month basis, coal imports by the power utility was 41.81% higher compared to 55,000 tons in September. However, this October volume was sharply up by 77.27% from 44,000 tons imported in October 2014.
The imports of steam coal by KPCL during the first seven months (April-October) of 2015-16 fell by 66% to 0.26 million tons (mt) from 0.77 mt in the same period of 2014-15. The volumes imported was 45% of the target of 0.58 mt set for the period.
The original import target for the year was 2.0 mt, but it was revised to 1.0 mt in July following increased availability of domestic coal.
