Kazakistan mined 17 million tonnes of coal in Karaganda oblast

Tengrinews reported that over 17 million tonne of coal was mined in Karaganda oblast in the first 7 months of 2013, KazTAG reports citing the Akim (governor) of Karaganda Oblast Baurzhan Abdishev.
Mr Baurzhan Abdishev at a meeting dedicated to the Miner's Day said that "Coal mining is the core industry of Karaganda oblast. We extract an average of 30 million tonnes of coal annually. This is a quarter of all the coal mined in Kazakhstan and 100% of the coking grades coal mined in Kazakhstan. (...) The region's mining companies extracted more than 17 million tonnes of coal in the first seven months this year.”
He said that the coal industry still remains one of the core industries for Kazakhstan, the Governor emphasized. Around 40 thousand people are employed in mining companies of Karaganda oblast. He added that "New deposits Zhalyn and Kumyskuduk are being developed now. Karagandagiproshakht Institute has prepared a package plan of development of the mining industry in Karaganda Oblast until 2020.”
Mr Abdishev said that the strategic document outlines the main directions of advancement: technical modernization, introduction of new technologies, expansion of the assortment of the coal products and applications of the accompanying minerals. We employ a scientific approach to the industry's development, and the region's mining industry has good prospects.”
The Miner's Day is traditionally celebrated in Kazakhstan on the last Sunday of August.
