Coking coal import volumes through Kolkata Port in March 2016 were at 294,326 tons against 388,450 tons in February 2016, showing a month-on-month drop of 24.23%, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
With the March figures, total imports of the material in fiscal 2015-16 stood higher by 8.69% at 4,958,810 tons against 4,562,254 tons seen in the previous fiscal.
In March 2015, coking coal imports were at 524,542 tons.

In March 2016, imports consisted of 280,170 tons from Australia in a price range of Rs 4,558 – Rs 6,360 ($68-94) per ton while the balance 14,156 tons arrived from the US at a unit price of Rs 6,369 ($94).
February 2016 imports, however, comprised 303,039 tons from Australia in a price range of Rs 5,128 – Rs 6,648 ($74-97) per ton while 37,706 tons arrived from Mozambique at a price range of Rs 5,177 – 5,258 ($76-77) per ton and 47,705 tons from the US at Rs 6,458 - 6,548 ($94-95) per ton.
