Coking coal import volumes through Kolkata Port in January 2016 were at 314,170 tons against 418,437 tons in December 2015, showing a decrease of 24.92%, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In January 2015, coking coal imports were at 334,329 tons.
With the January figures, total imports of the material in the first 10 months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 stood higher by 19.06% at 4,276,034 tons against 3,591,347 tons seen in the same period of the previous fiscal.
Coking coal imports for fiscal 2014-15 were at 4,562,254 tons.

In January 2016, imports consisted of 245,870 tons from Australia in a price range of Rs 5,131 – Rs 7,616 ($76-113) per ton while 46,300 tons arrived from Mozambique at a price band of Rs 5,166 – Rs 5,551 ($77-83) per ton and 22,000 tons from Indonesia at Rs 5,280 ($77) per ton.
December 2015 imports comprised 335,790 tons from Australia in a price range of Rs 5,131 – Rs 7,622 ($76-113) per ton while 42,100 tons arrived from Mozambique at a price range of Rs 5,551 – 5,803 ($83-86) per ton, 9,739 tons from the US at Rs 7,090 ($105) per ton and the balance 30,808 tons from New Zealand at a unit price of Rs 5,982 ($89-90).
