Kolkata’s anthracite imports erratic, surge in Jan

Anthracite coal imports through the port of Kolkata surged to a whopping 23,001 tons in January 2016 against a mere 40 tons in December 2015, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
Anthracite imports, through this port, in general, have shown an erratic trends this fiscal so far.
In January 2015, volumes had plunged to 668 tons.
With the January figures, total imports of the material in the first 10 months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 dropped 5.41% year-on-year to 142,052 tons compared to 150,186 tons seen in the same period of the previous fiscal.
Imports for fiscal 2014-15 were at 160,627 tons.

In January 2016, a single consignment came in from Russia at a unit price of Rs 9,288 ($136).
In December 2015, a volume of 20 tons came in from China at a unit price of Rs 20,237 ($301) and the balance 20 tons from Vietnam at a unit price of Rs 38,657 ($575).
