Krishnapatnam coal imports may touch 25 mt in FY15

November 14: Krishnapatnam Port expects handling of imported coal to be 20-25 million tons (mt) in 2014-15, a port official told ICMW.
This means that in the best-case scenario, the port expects to handle 25 mt of imported coal and in the worst scenario, 20 mt.
Handling of imported coal by the port in 2013-14 stood at 19.2 mt.
In the first seven months (April-October) of 2014-15, the port’s imported coal handling stood at 14.9 mt.
“If SAIL agrees to bring its cape-size vessels to Krishnapatnam, then coal imports through the port will increase further,” the official said, adding, the senior officials of Krishnapatnam Port and SAIL had recently met in Delhi in this regard.
It is believed that a high waiting period has made SAIL authorities think of an alternative, despite an agreement with Dhamra Port.
