Krishnapatnam may berth SAIL vessels in 3 months

November 12: Krishnapatnam Port expects to berth cape-size vessels of imported coal for Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in the next two-three months, an official from the port told ICMW.
It is believed that a high waiting period at other east-coast ports, such as Vizag and Dhamra, has made SAIL authorities think of an alternative.
“Directors from our port (Krishnapatnam) and SAIL had a meeting in Delhi recently and we expect to reach an agreement in the next two–three months,” the official said.
Meanwhile, he said, some vessels have been diverted to Krishnapatnam Port from Dhamra due to congestion. “There are some vessels that waited two-three months at Dhamra and could not berth. They have been diverted to Krishnapatnam and these are going to berth tomorrow or day after at the port,” he added.
