The previous week was a non-event for the power sector as a whole.
Stocks like Crompton Greaves and CESC registered 7-8% returns whereas Adani Power and Alstom T&D lost 6%. Hence, it was a mixed trend for the power sector.
Here it can be mentioned that, in the previous year, Adani Power and Alstom T&D were the top performers in the power domain.
Currently, traders are sceptical because of an uncertain coal policy and the e-auction policy of Coal India. However the market is waiting for any direction in the power sector.
The S&P BSE Power index decreased 0.43% to close at 1,876.15 as on April 26 from 1,884.32 on April 18. The highs and lows on April 18 were 1,880.22 and 1,844.40 respectively.
In a one-month period the index increased 7.40% and in the three-month period the index increased 5%. However, it lost 9.90% from the same period last year.
During the one-week period, most of the stocks on the S&P BSE Power closed in the negative zone. The maximum gain was registered by Crompton Greaves, with the stock increasing 8.51% to close at Rs 59.9. The maximum loss was registered by Adani Power, with the stock decreasing (-) 6.83% to close at Rs 32.75.
