Little change in PCI coal imports in 2013-14

July 3: India’s import of PCI coal for the year 2013-14 through 30 major and non-major ports rose marginally by 10.48% as steel demand remained largely subdued due to a slowdown in infrastructure spending by the previous government.
According to data available with ICMW, the import of PCI coal for the year 2013-14 stood at 1,835,428 tons as compared to 1,661,223 tons imported in 2012-13.
PCI coal is used mainly by Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), industry sources said.
