Logistics rationalisation in coal a must: MCL
26 Jun 2014
June 26: The government needs to rationalise coal transportation in the country as there is a lot of mismatch between the sourcing and user locations, according to A N Sahay, CMD, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL).
“There is a lot of mismatch. If a power plant in West Bengal takes coal from us instead of taking coal from Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL), it is ok. But a power plant in, say, Tamil Nadu should take coal from Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) and not from us as we are far away,” Sahay said.
“Lots of rationalisation in transportation is required. Actually, this is creating a lot of bottlenecks,” he added.
Such mismatch was resulting in additional cost for transport of coal to the power plants and thus putting pressure on generating companies, he pointed out.
