April 21: The spot price of Australian and South African steam coal remained unchanged on April 20, but low grades of Indonesian coal prices softened amidst absence of enquiries from China and low demand from India, market sources said.
Indonesian miners, who are already facing the pinch in the absence of Chinese enquiries and low demand from Indian companies are believed to be looking at other countries following reports that Indian companies are eyeing Australian coal, they said.
Meanwhile, the offers for foreign origin metallurgical coke slipped further, but buyers were not that optimistic as a result of which the number of deals remained at low ebb.
“Hardly any deals are happening in the Indian market for imported met coke. Most of the buyers are also looking at credit facilities,” they added.
