MAHAGENCO Aug coal imports sharply below target

September 18: Maharashtra State Power Generation Co Ltd (MSPGCL), popularly known as MAHAGENCO, received a total of 18,000 tons of imported coal in August 2014, which was only 6% of the targeted amount of 292,000 tons for the month, according to provisional data from CEA available with ICMW.

On a month-on-month basis, MSPGCL’s coal imports in August 2014 were lower by almost 89.83% against 177,000 tons of imported coal in July but the figure stood at nil during August 2013, data reveals.

The total receipt of imported coal by MAHAGENCO during the first five months of 2014-15 stood at 1,258,000 tons, up 46.45% compared to 859,000 tons received during the corresponding period of 2013-14, the data revealed.

The utility has been given a target to import 3,500,000 tons of steam coal in 2014-15.
