MAHAGENCO July coal imports fall below target

August 12: Maharashtra State Power Generation Co Ltd (MSPGCL), popularly known as MAHAGENCO, received a total of 177,000 tons of imported coal in July 2014, which was only 60.61% of the targeted amount of 292,000 tons for the month, according to provisional data from CEA available with ICMW.

On a month-on-month basis, MSPGCL’s coal imports in July were lower by almost 63.30% against 482,000 tons of imported coal in June but much higher against the mere 4 tons received in July 2013, data reveals.

With revised coal import figures for June 2014 from 320,000 tons to 482,000 tons, the total coal receipts during April-June, 2014 stood at 1,063,000 tons.

The total receipt of imported coal by MAHAGENCO during the first four months of 2014-15 stood at 1,240,000 tons, up 44.35% compared to 859,000 tons received during the corresponding period of 2013-14, the data revealed.

The utility has been given a target to import 3,500,000 tons of steam coal in 2014-15.
