MAHAGENCO’s August coal imports down 21% m-o-m

Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd (MAHAGENCO) imported a quantity of 26,000 tons of steam coal in August 2016 against 33,000 tons in July 2016, down 21.21% month-on-month, as per provisional data available with ICMW.

The target for the month under review was not available as CEA has not fixed the coal import target for any of the country’s utilities for 2016-17 in view of higher availability of domestic coal, according to information available with ICMW.

On a year-on-year basis, imports for the first 5 months (April-August) of the current fiscal (2016-17) were at 388,000 tons, down 36.49% compared to 611,000 tons imported in the same period of the previous fiscal (2015-16).

MAHAGENCO’S coal imports in the entire financial year of 2015-16 stood at 1,115,000 tons, down 51.85% from 2,316,000 tons imported in the previous fiscal (2014-15).

Imports of the fuel during last fiscal were only 30.49% of the revised target of 4,296,000 tons set by CEA for the period. The utility’s coal import target for 2015-16 had been revised down to 4 mt from the initially fixed target of 5.20 mt.
