MAHAGENCO’s February coal imports meet 29% of target
28 Mar 2016
Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd (MAHAGENCO) imported a quantity of 96,000 tons of steam coal in February 2016 against 109,000 tons in January 2016, showing a drop of 11.92% month-on-month, as per provisional data available with ICMW.
The materialisation in February 2016 was, however, a mere 29% of the target of 333,000 tons set for the month.
There had been delay in finalisation of tender by the utility and as such its imports got delayed, industry sources said.
In the first 11 months (April-February) of 2015-16, MAHAGENCO’S coal imports stood at 1,080,000 tons, down 49.53% from 2,140,000 tons imported in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15).
Imports of the fuel during this period (first 11 months) were only 29% of the revised target of 3,667,000 mt set by CEA for the period. The utility’s coal import target for 2015-16 has been revised down to 4 mt for 2015-16 from the initially fixed target of 5.20 mt.
