MAHAGENCO’s November coal import at 69,000 tons

After having not received a single ton of imported coal in October and September, Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd (MAHAGENCO) has imported a small quantity of 69,000 tons of coal in November, as per provisional data available with ICMW.

There was delay in finalisation of tender by the utility and as such its imports got delayed, industry sources said.

The utility’s coal imports in November 2014 stood at 206,000 tons (provisional).

In the first eight months (April-November) of 2015-16, MAHAGENCO’S coal imports stood at 664,000 tons, down 89% from 1,475,000 tons imported in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15).

Imports of the fuel during this period (first eight months) were only 25% of the revised target of 2.67 mt set by CEA for the period. The utility’s coal import target for 2015-16 has been revised down to 4.0 mt for 2015-16 from the initially fixed target of 5.20 mt.
