September 18: The land stalemate facing Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) over the relocation of some disgruntled villagers of Hensumal has been sorted out with the villagers agreeing to shift to the chosen site by the October deadline, a top MCL official told ICMW.
“The relocation issue is solved. The villagers have agreed to shift to the new location by October 31,” MCL Chairman and Managing Director A N Sahay said.
The issue had taken serious proportions in July when the 122 unwilling villagers staged a four-day shutdown of the mines over July 11-15. The management was concerned as production from three mines – Bhubaneswati, Ananta and Jagannath – could come to a standstill if the relocation was not done by the stipulated time.
