June 26: Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) has obtained Coal India’s approval for its mega project Searmal in Basundhara coalfield and is moving the environment ministry for the forest clearances (FC).
“We are moving for FC. We expect that by the time rail line comes, we can start the mine. However, it will take 10 years to achieve the peak production. In between, we have to create infrastructure and all,” MCL chairman-cum-managing director A N Sahay told ICMW.
The Searmal project, which has a peak production capacity of 40 mt per annum, has recently been approved by Coal India board.
