MECL pulling down CMPDI’s drilling work
19 Apr 2016
The Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), which finished the year 2015-16 with lower-than-expected drilling of 9.94 lakh metres, has blamed it on the below par performance by MECL with which CMPDI has an outsourcing contract.
“MECL has under-performed during the year. In a sense, they are pulling us back,” said a source at CMPDI.
CMPDI had signed a MoU with MECL for outsourcing 2.5 lakh metres of drilling job in 2015-16, but the latter could not deliver the goods, the source said.
“MECL posted only a 4% growth year-on-year, while as a whole, CMPDI ended the year with 20% growth,” he said.
CMPDI achieved total drilling of 9.94 lakh metres in 2015-16, about 20% growth over 8.28 lakh metres achieved in the previous year, but lower than 10.5 lakh metres expected by the Coal India subsidiary.
