MMTC floats CIL tender for 0.532 mt of imported coal
26 Aug 2014
August 26: MMTC Limited, a Government of India enterprise, has floated a notice inviting tender (NIT) on behalf of Coal India Limited (CIL), to procure 0.532 million tons (mt) of imported steam coal for four power generation companies on “FOR delivery point basis” through various discharging ports in India, according to information available with ICMW.
Through the tender, CIL plans to procure around 39,750 tons of coal for CESC Ltd, 150,000 tons for NLC Tamil Nadu Power, 64,334 tons for Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd and 277,500 tons for Nabha TPP (Unit 1 and 2).
Half of the tendered quantity will have to be supplied in the third quarter (October-December) of 2014-15 and the remaining in the fourth quarter of 2014-15 (January-March).
The desired specifications of the imported coal are thus: GCV (ADB) of 5,800-6,500 Kcal/kg, total moisture (ARB) of 10-20% (max), ash (ADB) of 8-20% (max), VM (ADB) of 25-45% among others.
On August 4, ICMW had reported that MMTC would soon float an NIT for 3 mt of imported coal on CIL’s behalf based on information received from a senior official of the company.
However, the final tender quantity has been reduced because some of the power plants, such as DVC, backed out at the last moment. “We had given a mandate to MMTC to go ahead with the tender to procure around 3 mt coal for supply to our various power sector consumers,” a top official from CIL had told ICMW on August 4.
The package-wise plant-wise tentative quantities covered under this tender are as follows:
