MMTC’s CIL procurement bid to open on May 8

28 Apr 2015

April 28: The bid submission date against MMTC’s global tender to procure 0.754 million tons (mt) of imported steam coal on behalf of Coal India Ltd (CIL) for supply to four power utilities will close on May 8, the company said.

The technical bids will be opened on the same day, while the price bids will be opened later on.

ICMW had reported on April 9 that CIL has placed an order with MMTC to procure 0.750 mt of imported steam coal during the first six months of 2015-16.

CIL had started procuring imported coal through MMTC for supplies to its power plant consumers from 2014-15. During the previous financial year, around 5 mt of imported coal was supplied by the coal miner through the arrangement.

Of the total, the requirement in the first quarter (April-June) of 2015-16 is 357,006 tons and that for second quarter is 397,007 tons.

Nabha thermal power plant (unit 1 & 2) will purchase 120,250 tons of coal in each quarter while Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd will purchase 55,756 tons in each of the two quarters, making it a total of 352,012 tons.

Of the balance, 218,000 tons (109,000 tons in each quarter) will be procured by APPDCL for Krishnapatnam thermal power station, 41,000 tons (22,000 tons and 19,000 tons in Q1 and Q2) by APGENCO’s Rayalseema TPS and another 94,000 tons (50,000 tons in Q1 and 44,000 tons in Q2) by APGENCO’s Vijayawada TPS.

In addition, Sterlite Energy Ltd, Jharsuguda will purchase 49,001 tons of imported coal in Q2 of the year.
