Seafaradays Energy, the Delhi-based offshore renewable energy generating company, has received the green signal from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to conduct its first demonstration plant in Indian waters. Sourabh Jolly, Vice- President, Business and Strategy, SeaFaradays Energy, told ICMW.
Jolly said that the project appraisal committee (PAC) under the chairmanship of MNRE granted a technology suitability approval and go-ahead clearance for the company’s first demonstration plant in Indian waters.
Jolly said: “The first demonstration plant in the Andamans would be set up next financial year as scheduled and obviously this approval would be the inspiration for going for other projects.”
According to Jolly, the demo plant would cost around US$7-8 million and is estimated to start functioning from next financial year.
As per Seafaradays estimates, the initial 1 MW in the Andamans would come as a demo plant near Hutbay with 20 units, each capable of generating 50 kW. Subsequently, the plant would be upscaled to 5 MW and there would also be simultaneous installations in south Andamans for 35-40 MW.
