MRPL’s pet coke commissioning delayed once again

04 Mar 2014

March 04: Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), a subsidiary of ONGC Ltd, has once again delayed commissioning of its 1 million tons per annum (mtpa) petroleum coke facility at its refinery in Mangalore to March-end or beginning of April, an industry source said.

“It is not clear why they are delaying the commissioning of the pet coke facility although everything is ready. But now they are likely to commission it in March-end or in the first week of April,” the source added.

An official of UltraTech Ltd., which along with Shree Cement Ltd. consumes about 5 million tons of pet coke annually, said “MRPL is currently doing price studies. Hopefully, they will start production in March.”

The commissioning of the facility was earlier scheduled in August 2013, which was then extended to December 2013 and again to January 2014 and finally to February 2014.

The commissioning of the facility is likely to significantly increase availability of pet coke in South Indian market.
