Mar steam coal imports via Kolkata drop 10% m-o-m

April 27: Steam coal import levels through the port of Kolkata dropped 10.23% to 134,241 tons in March 2015 against 149,550 tons in February, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
In March 2014, imports were at nil.
With this, steam coal imports through the port in fiscal 2014-15 were at 1,110,147 tons against a volume of 1,735,675 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal.
Following are the details of steam coal imports via Kolkata in 2013-14 & 2014-2015:

In March 2015, a volume of 119,761 tons arrived from South Africa in a range of Rs 4,313 – Rs 5,516 ($69-88) per ton while the balance 14,480 tons from Australia at a unit price of Rs 4,313 ($69).
In February 2015, however, 139,550 tons arrived from South Africa in a range of Rs 4,093 – Rs 5,886 ($65-94) per ton, while the balance 10,000 tons from Australia at a unit price of Rs 4,279 ($69).
