March steam coal imports via Paradip drop 67.84% m-o-m

April 8: Steam coal imports through the port of Paradip dropped 67.84% to 318,344 tons in March 2014, against a volume of 989,999 tons reported in February 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
With this, steam coal imports through the port during the entire financial year of 2013-14 stood at 6,907,374 tons against 7,349,688 tons reported in the previous fiscal, registering an annual drop of 6.02%.
In March 2013, the volume stood substantially higher at 526,688 tons.
Following are the details of steam coal imports via Paradip in 2012-13 and 2013-14:

During the last month of the previous financial year, all the steam coal import consignments via Paradip arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,846 – Rs 4,647 ($46-$74) per ton.
In February 2014, however, imports of steam coal included 967,874 tons from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,839 – Rs 5,531 ($45-$88) per ton, 15,988 tons from Australia at a unit price of Rs 5,867 ($94) and the balance 6,138 tons from South Africa at Rs 5,824 ($94) per unit.
