Marginal increase seen in coal stocks at power plants

 November 13: The coal stocks scenario at about 100 thermal power plants monitored by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) continued to improve during the week ending November 9, 2015 compared to the previous week, according to CEA data.

 While the number of plants facing critical coal stocks position of less than 7 days remained unchanged compared to the previous week, super-critical coal stocks position of less than four days improved compared to the previous week.

 The stocks rose to 24.636 million tons (mt) on November 9, 2015 from 23.629 mt as on November 2, 2015 but were down compared to 25.352 mt as on October 8, 2015.

 The stocks on the above dates were, however, significantly higher compared to a low of 9.004 mt a year ago on November 11, 2014, according to CEA data.

 The number of plants facing critical coal stocks position of less than 7 days stood at 7 on November 9, 2015 while the figures are 7 on November 2, 2015 and 8 on October 8, 2015. However the figure was 55 on November 11, 2014.

 The number of plants facing super-critical coal stocks position of less than 4 days stood at 3 on November 9, 2015 while the figures are 4 on November 2, 2015 and 4 on October 8, 2015. However the figure was 33 on November 11, 2014.

 Of the total coal stocks as on November 9, 2015, imported coal inventory was at 1.427 mt and domestic coal at 23.209 mt while on November 2, 2015, imported coal inventory was at 1.112 mt and domestic coal at 22.517 mt.

 On the other hand, on October 8, 2015, imported coal inventory was at 2.011 mt and domestic coal at 23.341 mt while on November 11, 2014 the stocks of imported and domestic coals were at 0.958 mt and 8.046 mt, respectively.
