Maritime meet in Mumbai eyes investment mop-up

Maritime India Summit 2016 (MIS 2016), a two-day initiative of the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, would be held in Mumbai from April 14-15, 2016 to attract investment in the maritime sector in India, sources in the shipping ministry told ICMW.
As per ministry sources, MIS 2016 will provide a platform for participants to explore potential business opportunities in the Indian maritime sector. The ministry-initiated Sagarmala project will showcase 150 projects which could entail an investment of Rs 3 lakh crore, sources informed.
The focus would be on ship-building, ship repair, ship recycling, dredger/barge manufacturing, setting up of new ports and capacity augmentation of existing ports, development of inland waterways for cargo and passenger transportation, coastal shipping, passenger ferry services, lighthouse and cruise tourism, island development and aquatic resources, maritime cluster development and other services related to the Indian maritime sector.
The summit would attracting than 2,000 participants, including senior government officials and policy makers, CEOs of the Indian and global maritime industry, industry experts from across the world with an exclusive partner country session by the Republic of Korea.
