Marmagoa Jan steam coal imports fall 17% m-o-m

March 4: Non-coking coal imports through the port of Marmagoa stood at 256,810 tons in January 2015, down 16.86% from 308,874 tons imported in December 2014, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In January 2014, the import of steam coal through the port stood at 82,236 tons which means imports in January 2015 were up nearly 212% y-o-y.
The total import of steam coal through the port stood at 1,871,826 tons during the first 10 months (April-January) of 2014-15, up manifold compared to only 245,431 tons imported during the corresponding period of 2013-14, the data revealed.
Following is the monthly break-up of non-coking coal imports via Marmagoa in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

The entire material in January came from South Africa in three consignments in the price range of Rs 5212 ($84) and Rs 5315 ($83) per ton.
During December 2014, 77,585 tons came from Australia at a price of Rs 6,914 ($108) per ton while the rest of 231,289 tons had come from South Africa in a price range of Rs 4,798-Rs 5,496 ($77-$86) per ton.
