Imports of non-coking coal (steam coal) via Marmagoa Port were sharply up 85.19% to 4,896,621 tons in fiscal 2015-16 against 2,644,095 tons in 2014-15, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Similarly, imports of the material via the port rose 47.55% month-on-month to 584,370 tons in March 2016 against 396,055 tons seen in February 2016.

During March, out of the total imported quantity, 163,756 tons came from Australia at a price range of Rs 4,769-Rs 5,583 ($70-$82) per ton, 60,500 tons came from Indonesia at a price of Rs 2,026 ($30) per ton and 360,114 tons from South Africa in a price range of Rs 2,890-Rs 4,197($43-$62) per ton.
During February, out of the total imported quantity, 182,066 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 4,619-Rs 5,802 ($67-$85) per ton, 195,489 tons from Indonesia at Rs 2,337-Rs 3,681 ($34-$54) per ton and 18,500 tons from South Africa in a price range of Rs 3,353-Rs 3,848 ($49-$56) per ton.
