October 27: The more than 4.107 lakh members of the Indian coal industry registered with the Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation (CMPFO) will, henceforth, be able to track online the status of their provident fund (PF) balance, Secretary (Coal) S K Srivastava, who is also the chairman of the organisation, told reporters in Kolkata on October 27.
“The pilot online facility was launched for the Kolkata Region on Monday and will be extended to other regions soon,” Srivastava said after inaugurating the facility.
The CMPFO is an autonomous organisation governed by the board of trustees and functions under the supervision of the Ministry of Coal and administers the Coal Mines Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provision Act, 1948 and various schemes framed under the same.
“Once the Kolkata facility is validated, it will be implemented across other regions as well,” he said, adding, “the facility will benefit all the workers, including those on contract.”
Where introducing the facility in other regions is concerned, it has been decided to set up a validation committee comprising one representative each from employees, employer, CMPFO and Ministry of Coal, he said.
“Within 15 days or maximum one month, this committee will give its report and once they confirm that the system is alright, then it will be up scaled across all the regions,” he said.
Asked by when he expect to introduce the facility in all the regions, Srivastava said, “It is difficult to tell the exact time, but I think, it can be up scaled in all the regions in three months.”
