June 6: Met coke imports through the port of Kolkata dropped 20.97% to 58,779 tons in May 2014 against a volume of 74,380 tons reported in April, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Met coke imports in May 2013 were slightly lower at 49,216 tons.
Imports of the material for the first two months of the current fiscal of 2014-15 are at 133,159 tons.
Met coke imports via Kolkata Port stood at 510,327 tons for the full financial year of 2013-14.

In May, met coke imports comprised 9,888 tons from Australia in a price band of Rs 15,372 - Rs 15,182 ($253) per ton, 40,192 tons from China in a band of Rs 12,934 - Rs 15,021 ($215-247) per ton, 8,575 tons from Russia in a band of Rs 16,086 - Rs 16,287 (268-271) per ton and the balance 124 tons in a band of Rs 37,102 - Rs 44,620 (617-742) per ton.
In April, imports of the material included 22,466 tons from Australia in a price band of Rs 9,894 - Rs 16,527 ($164-273) per ton, 38,148 tons from China in a range of Rs 13,203 - Rs 14,953 ($217-246) per ton, 8,766 tons from Japan in a price range of Rs 16,615 - Rs 38,044 ($273-629) per ton and the balance 5,000 tons from Russia in a band of Rs 16,179 - Rs 16,273 ($266-268) per ton.
