Met coke imports via Kolkata Port drop 21% in March m-o-m

April 15: Met coke imports through the port of Kolkata dropped 21% to 51,108 tons in March 2014 over 64,714 tons recorded for February, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

With this, total met coke imports via Kolkata Port stood at 510,327 tons for the full financial year of 2013-14 compared to 849,349 tons recorded for 2012-13, showing a decrease of almost 40% in the just-concluded fiscal over the previous one.

Following are the details of met coke imports via Kolkata in 2012-13 and 2013-14:

In March, met coke imports comprised 15,058 tons from Australia in a price band of Rs 16,527-Rs 16,640 ($268) per ton, 18,738 tons from China at a unit price of Rs 16,235 ($262), 7,312 tons from Japan in a range of Rs 17,041 – Rs 38,783 ($276-$616) per ton and the balance 10,000 tons from Russia in a price band of Rs 16,440 – Rs 16,845 (261-$272) per ton.

In February 2014, imports included 21,780 tons of met coke from Indonesia at a unit price of Rs 17,352 ($276), 24,250 tons from Japan in a price range of Rs 17,302 – Rs 18,069 ($275-$287) per ton, 18,188 tons from Russia at a price range of Rs 16,032 – Rs 16,970 ($255-270) per ton and 497 tons from Italy at a unit price of Rs 14,099 ($227).
