September 11: Met coke imports through the port of Kolkata rose a substantial 172% to 110,718 tons in August 2013 against 40,678 tons recorded in July 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
With this, total met coke imported via Kolkata port stood at 292,359 tons during the first five months of 2013-14 compared to 403,984 tons recorded during the corresponding period of FY'13.
Met coke imported in August 2012 stood at 80,203 while total met coke imports in 2012-13 stood at 849,348 tons.

In August 2013, 491 tons of semi coke arrived from China in a unit price of Rs 17,639 ($296) per ton, 69,027 tons of low ash met coke arrived from China in a price range of Rs 15,754-Rs 18,415 ($256-$282) per ton, 36,200 tons arrived from Japan in a price band of Rs 17,169-Rs 18,492 ($264-$295) per ton and 2,500 tons each arrived from Russia and Ukraine at a unit price of Rs 15,841 ($242) and Rs 14,137 ($228) respectively per ton.
In July 2013, however, 31,388 tons arrived from China in a price band of Rs 14,532 – Rs 17,656 ($240-$292) per ton and 9,289 tons arrived from Ukraine in a price range of Rs 14,948 – Rs 15,406 ($251-$256).
