Met coke imports via Kolkata port rise 24.79% in Dec m-o-m

January 9: Met coke imports through the port of Kolkata rose 24.79% to 22,122 tons in December 2013 against 17,727 tons reported in the previous month, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

With this, total met coke imported via Kolkata port stood at 373,507 tons during the first nine months of 2013-14 compared to 697,087 tons recorded during the corresponding period of FY'13, showing a drop of 46.41% over the nine-month period.

Met coke import in December 2012 stood at 86,963 tons, showing a manifold rise year-on-year, while total met coke imports in 2012-13 stood at 849,348 tons.

In December, 17,813 tons arrived from Russia in a range of Rs 15,867 – Rs 16,367 ($255-$259) per ton, 3286 tons arrived from Ukraine at a unit price of Rs 14,545 ($231) and 900 tons from China at Rs 17516 (281) per ton, among others.

In November, however, 12,727 tons arrived from China in a price band of Rs 13,609 – Rs 14,012 (4219-$225) per ton while the balance 5,000 tons arrived from Japan at a unit price of Rs 17,350 ($279).
