Mineral output rises 5% y-o-y, up 2% in Apr-Oct

Mineral production in October 2015 was 4.7% higher as compared to that in October 2014.The cumulative growth for the seven months April-October, 2015-16 was 2% over the corresponding period of the previous year.
The total value of mineral production apart from atomic and minor minerals in the country during October 2015 was Rs 19,159 crore. The contribution of 529 lakh tons of coal worth Rs 7,504 crore (39%) was the highest. Next in the order of importance were 32 lakh tons of petroleum (crude) worth Rs 5,727 crore, 2,700 million cu.m of natural gas (utilised) worth Rs 2,233 crore, 129 lakh tons of iron ore at Rs 1,882 crore, 37 lakh tons of lignite worth Rs 504 crore and 241 lakh tons of limestone worth Rs 478 crore.
These six minerals together contributed about 96% of the total value of mineral production in October 2015.
Apart from this bauxite comprised 2,386,000 tons, chromite 194,000 tons, copper conc 11,000 tons, gold 93 kg, iron ore 129 lakh tons, lead conc. 24,000 tons, manganese ore 140,000 tons, zinc conc. 132,000 tons, apatite & phosphorite 179,000 tons, limestone 241 lakh tons, magnesite 23,000 tons and diamond 1,748 carat.
The production of important minerals showing positive growth during October 2015 over October 2014 includes ‘chromite’ 69.9%, ‘bauxite’ 52.9%, ‘lead conc. 48.8%, ‘iron ore’ 48.2%, ‘copper conc.’ 35.6%, among others.
