December 9: A mixed trend was visible in the international steam coal markets on December 6 as prices firmed up for standard South African material as well as the Indonesian variety while rates for the Australian material softened, industry sources said.
Coking coal prices, however, eased further on weak demand, they added.
The firming up of freight rates, however, is resulting in lower number of deals actually taking place, particularly for the Indonesian material where higher rates are being quoted by miners due to loading constraints, they added.
