May 22: A mixed trend was witnessed in international coal markets on May 21 as prices of South African and Australian varieties softened but that of Indonesian origin firmed up a bit, market sources said.
The firmness in Indonesian coal prices was attributed to expectations of higher demand from Indian companies for delivery after July amidst reports of production cut by miners, they said.
However, the firmness may not last as Indian buying may take a few more days to revive as the country awaits policy decisions from the new government, they feel.
