April 17: A mixed trend prevailed in international coal markets on April 16 where prices of Australian- and South African-origin steam coal firmed up while that of Indonesian origin softened, market sources said.
Indian companies are believed to be taking exposures to book their requirement for the monsoon season, which led to a firmness in prices of the South African variety.
Meanwhile, coking coal prices FOB Australia slipped further on continued lack of good demand from steel-makers due to extension of a depressed trend in steel markets throughout the world, they said.
