26 Dec 2013

December 26: The Ministry of Coal (MoC) has issued show–cause notices to eight companies including Mahanadi Coalfields Limited and Hindalco Industries and sought explanation from four others for slow progress in the development of allocated coal blocks, according to official releases issued by the ministry.

Of the eight companies that faced show-cause notices, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, Hindalco Industries and Neyveli Lignite Corporation were pulled up for the 'unsatisfactory progresses' of Talbira II and II coal blocks, while five others (Ispat Godavari limited, Ind-Agro Synergy Limited, Nakoda Ispat, Vanadana Global Limited, and Shree Bajrag Power and Ispat) were show-caused for slow development of Nakia I and II coal blocks.

The ministry has asked the companies to reply to the notices by January 13, 2014.

The companies which were asked to "explain" the delay in the progress of blocks are JAW Steel Limited, Bhushan Power and Steel Limited and Jai Balaji Industries Limited (for the Rohne coal block) and Power Finance Corporation Limited (for Meenakshi and Meenakshi-B coal blocks).

These companies have been asked to explain their position by January 13, 2014.
