MoC moots policy on sharing of coal/lignite data

21 Feb 2014

February 21: The Ministry of Coal has proposed a policy on sharing of data on coal and lignite.

At present, CMPDI is providing a copy of the geological reports in respect of blocks explored in detail and offered for allocation by MoC for captive use on advanced payment of a nominal cost which is fixed from time to time in three categories based on the size of the GR:

Category A: GR with up to 25 drawings and 500 pages;

Category B: GR having 26-50 drawings and 1000 pages; and

Category C: GR with more than 50 drawings and more than 1,000 pages.

With regard to coal and lignite, the MoC has proposed that a similar approach can be adopted for the extension of the policy for geological reserves of blocks explored under regional/promotional exploration schemes of the MoC.

It has suggested the directorate of geology of state governments may be provided photocopies of GR of promotional and detailed exploration of coal and lignite blocks (non-CIL). For CIL blocks, concerned coal companies and for lignite, NLC may be contacted. In all cases, a certificate must be produced that above GR will be used for planning purposes of the state and will not be used for commercial purposes.
